Friends All Around The World

Once in a while it is always refreshing to have a break from the regular routine. The Red Rose class six, seven, and eight students had a wonderful surprise Skype call with the seventh graders from East Side Middle School (ESMS) in New York City. The students from ESMS were overjoyed to see the dazzling faces of the Red Rose student's eagerly awaiting for them on the other side of the computer screen. They could not wait to get started and to take full advantage of the opportunity to make new friends from Kenya, a country they have heard so much about. The ESMS seven graders got to know more about Kenya and the Red Rose students. They discussed their interests, hobbies, studies, hopes, and dreams. They also got to spend time reading to each other “The Bugliest Bug” by Carol Diggory, a book about how children can be leaders. They all loved and enjoyed listening to the students reading every page. By the end of the Skype video call the students from both schools had selected new pen pals, friends they will be communicating with closely by email, letters, and cards.
